Dr. Wael Barsoum is an innovative, value-driven orthopedic surgeon with 20+ years of experience in promoting growth, performance, and leading change. As President and Chief Transformation Officer, Dr. Barsoum leads HOPCo’s market transformation initiatives by further aligning stakeholders to continue the shift from volume-based care to value-based care models. He also oversees HOPCo’s musculoskeletal service line hospital integration, musculoskeletal specialty hospitals, quality programs, and operational teams.

Dr. Barsoum is an effective visionary adept at forecasting future challenges and instituting roadmaps for organizational success, examples of which include the development of the Enterprise Surgical Council, the first Cleveland Clinic Surgical Operations Playbook, and the creation of the Check Please Cost Transparency Program. Read more about Dr. Barsoum.

 

Marvin K. Smith, M.D.

Marvin K. Smith, MD, MS is a board-certified Orthopaedic Surgeon, fellowship trained in sports medicine who serves as Chief of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Memorial Regional Hospital and Memorial Regional Hospital South. He cares for patients with injuries and concerns involving the shoulders, knees, hips, elbows and ankles. This includes athletes of all levels, from professionals to those who are active for recreation or as a part of their occupation. Procedures performed include ACL and multiligament knee reconstruction, meniscus repair and transplant, cartilage restoration and joint preservation, rotator cuff and shoulder instability surgery, patellar stabilization, hip arthroscopy as well as hip, knee and shoulder replacement surgery. Georgette Palmer-Smith

Georgette Palmer-Smith, affectionately known as GeeGee, is a dedicated advocate for arthritis awareness and a valued member of the South Florida Arthritis Foundation Board. Beyond her board responsibilities, GeeGee plays an integral role in the organization's signature events, serving on the planning committees for both the Walk to Cure Arthritis and the Jingle Bell Run. In 2016, Georgette faced a personal battle with osteoarthritis in her neck, specifically cervical spondylosis. This diagnosis served as a catalyst for her active involvement in the Arthritis Foundation, inspired by the wealth of information and support she discovered on the foundation's website. Hokulani
Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
Youth Honoree


Hokulani is 7 years old and loves gymnastics, reading, art, and basketball. At just 18 months she was diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis. It was a challenging time and questions swirled for Hokulani’s future. Despite this, she and her family are doing everything they can to create awareness and ultimately find a cure. They are grateful to Dr. Wiers Shamir, Bonnie Smeryage, NP and Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital at Memorial who have helped provide excellent care and support and to the Arthritis Foundation for providing a community for their family. Hokulani is excited to serve as Youth Honoree for the 2024 Walk to Cure Arthritis!
