2024 Walk to Cure Arthritis Honorees

Teresa Sosenko, MD
Illinois Bone & Joint Institute
Medical Honoree

Dr. Sosenko grew up in Joliet, IL. She became interested in medicine at an early age, but it was not until her internal medicine residency that she realized she wanted to pursue rheumatology. She went to school at Poznan University of Medical Sciences in Poland and did her residency in Internal Medicine at Trihealth Good Samaritan Hospital where she was chief resident. Dr. Sosenko completed her fellowship in rheumatology at the University of Illinois - Chicago.

In her free time, Dr. Sosenko is an avid reader. She also loves doing puzzles, traveling, baking, and spending time with her husband and miniature poodle.

Hanna D.
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Adult Honoree

Hanna's rheumatoid arthritis came quickly after the onset of symptoms and unbearable pain. It has been challenging for her to figure out the best medication, routine, workouts, foods to eat, etc., but she is currently doing well and managing her pain.

In her free time Hanna likes to explore the coffee shops and restaurants of Chicago. She also enjoys watching movies and playing with her dog, Memphis. Hannah is proud of her involvement with the Arthritis Foundation. Moving forward, Hanna wants to continue learning how to manage her arthritis and hopes to go into remission.

Kate Arne
Juvenile Arthritis
Teen Honoree

Kate’s arthritis journey began with a swollen finger, but quickly progressed to other joints and has caused morning stiffness, pain throughout the day, and sleeplessness at night. While she is unable to be in complete remission, she has been pain-free for nearly 2 years.

In her free time Kate likes to be outside in the sunshine, go on hikes, and try new coffee shops.

Kate’s goal is to increase awareness that kids get arthritis too, and to expand knowledge and resources for those affected by arthritis. Kate also hopes for more affordable and accessible care options for patients, and eventually funding enough research to cure arthritis!

Hannah Filippo
Oligoarthritic Juvenile
Idiopathic Arthritis
Anterior Uveitis
Youth Honoree

Hannah’s teachers noticed her right knee was swollen and Hannah was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis shortly after that. She was initially treated with steroid injections, but six months later the swelling returned along with stiffness in her ankle. Last month she was also diagnosed with uveitis.

The Arthritis Foundation provided Hannah’s family with a community of families who “get it”. After speaking with other juvenile arthritis moms, Hannah’s mom said it immediately felt like they were family.

Hannah enjoys reading books, playing superheroes and dinosaurs, and playing with her baby sister. She hopes that she will one day be able to stop taking eye drops, while her parents hope Hannah can live a full life with much of the time in remission.
