Karen Tepe

Karen is currently the Director of Orthopaedics and Neuroscience at St. Elizabeth Healthcare. Karen has a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Cincinnati and Master’s degrees in both Health Services Administration and Business Administration from Xavier University. She is also certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security through the American Health Information Management Association. In addition to working for St. Elizabeth Healthcare, Karen is an Adjunct faculty member at Purdue Global University teaching various courses in the Health Administration and Health Information Management curriculums.

 

Brent Beerens
Kroger Company
Corporate Vice Chair

Brent Beerens, Vice President Empire Marketing Strategies, works with the Kroger Company supporting their Our Brands private label items. Brent has been on the board for 2 years and became involved with the Arthritis Foundation over 6 years ago while supporting Mayro Kanning from Kroger who was a long-time board member. Brent’ grandmother also suffered from debilitating rheumatoid arthritis for most of her life and working to help create awareness and funding to support families and research toward a cure is why he joined the board and appreciates everyone’s contributions and support.

 

John Francis Beary III, MD
Medical Honoree

A Harvard medical school mentor introduced Dr. Beary to the importance of immunology in understanding and treating chronic inflammatory diseases, leading him to choose rheumatology as his specialty.

With more than 40 years of experience in clinical rheumatology, education and research, Dr. Beary sees adults for joint diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, gout, psoriatic arthritis, inflammatory spondylitis and osteoarthritis of the knee and hip. He has worked extensively on many clinical trials, testing new medicines and helping to standardize testing procedures internationally. His most recent research project involves a large multicenter study that will lead to new clinical guidelines for gout treatment. Read More

 

Asiajana (Asia)
Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
Adult Honoree


Asia is twenty seven years old and was diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis when she was two. She remembers having multiple doctor appointments and her mom saying, “this is an all-day thing.” Growing up with this disease was difficult, but she had the support of her mom and grandma, who was always at the appointments. Finding employment that could accommodate her restrictions has been strenuous. Asia attend an arthritis conference in Indiana and met a lot of people her age which made her feel less alone. Six years ago, she had a total shoulder replacement. It was very rough, but she had an amazing support system. She is currently a phlebotomist which doesn’t take too big a toll on her body.

Meet Mia, a remarkable six-year-old on a mission to find a cure for juvenile arthritis, a condition she's bravely battled since the tender age of two. Mia's journey with arthritis has been a challenging one, but her determination and resilience shines brightly, inspiring all who know her.

Mia's love for her family is at the core of her strength, they've been by her side through thick and thin. No matter what the challenge is - doctor's visit, treatment and/or difficult days - they provide unwavering support and love. Mia's family is her rock, giving her the courage to face each day with a smile.
