Josie Fox
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Adult Honoree

Josie Fox was unknowingly pregnant with her second child when she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), waking up one morning to a sore toe that later flared in her same side knee and elbow. She visited her doctor who ran her labs that indeed revealed high rheumatoid factors. Her pregnancy was most difficult with uncontrolled RA flare-ups, since she couldn't take anything for the disease.

After her daughter was born in 2018, the RA worsened. While investigating her options for treatment she learned that biologics was not an option, since she was positive for the BRCA gene, which consequently lead to surgeries. In October 2020 she developed a severe case of pericarditis, due to the RA and required immediate heart surgery.

"I am grateful to have found this network of people who support those of us who otherwise feel helpless and isolated due to this disease. Thank you for bringing us hope."

Caiden Triebel
Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
Youth Honoree

Caiden Triebel was diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) at the age of 12. At nine years old, he had a traumatic knee injury that led to ten surgeries and years of physical therapy. As Caiden’s knee began to finally heal, he still fought inflammation and struggled to gain range of motion.

When Caiden received his diagnosis, he was told that he would need to try methotrexate but would likely need to add a biological. Thankfully methotrexate alone has worked for Caiden. At 13, he needed one more surgery to correct a leg length discrepancy that he developed from chronic inflammation.

Caiden is now 15 and lives in the country with his family and faithful dog, Rocko. He enjoys being a normal teenage boy and with juvenile idiopathic arthritis having little effect on his everyday life.
