Charlie Systemic Juvenile Arthritis Youth Honoree Charlie’s journey began in October 2021 when the rambunctious 1.5-year-old started having persistent fevers, rash, joint swelling, and lethargy. After being referred to Children’s, Charlie saw several specialists before seeing a rheumatologist. Following a year of persistent symptoms and countless labs, visits, and procedures, he was diagnosed with systemic juvenile arthritis (SJIA). Since then, the family has managed his SJIA with medication and his team of doctors, and Charlie has been making up for lost time. Knowing this journey is still in progress, they celebrate every milestone. With additional research, they hope someday kids like Charlie won’t have to endure a long diagnosis and can have medicine that will cure their symptoms.
