Paula Diaz
Juvenile Arthritis
Adult Honoree

Paula Diaz, 28 was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis (JA) at the age of 11.

“As a child, it’s difficult to take that in”.

Over the years, Paula has learned to live her best life. She knows it's hard for people to understand she has an illness and has struggled to have a so called "normal" life, but 17 years later she is doing everything she always wanted to do and so much more. This year, Paula is serving as the Jingle Bell Run Adult Honoree in Miami. Paula is very excited to raise much needed awareness of her illness and help others understand they do not have to be alone.

Sawyer Rodriguez
Juvenile Arthritis
Youth Honoree

At just a year and 10 months old, Sawyer woke up one morning with a swollen knee. Sawyer would cry from pain but as the day progressed, she would hobble around so that she could still be a toddler. Sawyer began to know her limits and would request to be put in the stroller. It was gut wrenching to look at the swelling in Sawyer’s knee and to see her push through the pain. After multiple misdiagnoses, fevers, improper medication, multiple procedures, we flew to Boston Children’s Hospital where she was diagnosed and referred to a local pediatric rheumatologist. Once in treatment, Sawyer began to improve tremendously and has since been in remission. We will forever be thankful for Sawyer's caring doctors.
