2020 Walk to Cure Arthritis Honorees

Dr. Louisa Ziglar
Rheumatologist
Medical Honoree

Dr. Louisa Ziglar, a rheumatologist at Arthritis and Rheumatism Associates, is excited to be a Medical Honoree at this year’s Walk to Cure Arthritis. Although Dr. Ziglar treats all types of rheumatic conditions, she has a special interest in osteoporosis, and has conducted lab research focused on promoting the development of bone and cartilage cells. Her research has been recognized in the form of awards and scholarships through the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes for Health, and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute

A proud participant of last year’s inaugural walk for Frederick, she is eager to return again to support arthritis care to the Frederick community.

Jaya Nagesh
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Youth Honoree

In the Fall of 2018, Jaya was an active, successful 19-year-old college sophomore when she was stopped in her tracks with a rheumatoid arthritis diagnosis. She developed joint pains so severe that she could not walk, stand or even hold a pen. After months of trial and error, her doctors found the medication regimen that helped control her pain and restore function. Despite the severe physical and emotional pain that Jaya endured, she did not let her arthritis stop her from achieving her goals. With persistence and tenacity, she continued with her course load and she is now not only graduating college but doing so one year early.

She is grateful to her medical team, family, friends and of course the Arthritis Foundation for their support. Jaya is focused on bringing awareness that arthritis is not just a disease of older people. She also wants to raise funds to help with new treatments, and maybe even a cure one day.
