2019 Jingle Bell Run Honorees

Donald Myers
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Adult Honoree

Don journey began in 2009 with acute onset bilateral nerve pain in his hands, a misdiagnosis of carpel tunnel, subsequent bilateral hand surgery and referral to Rheumatology. This began a whole new discovery of the world of Rheumatoid Arthritis! This incredible ongoing journey overflows with new experiences and understanding of the significance of genetics, chronic disease management, diet, weight, exercise, faith and medication.  Don is eternally grateful for the support of friends, family and the Rheumatology professionals that continue to support him in this journey.  Don been exceptionally fortunate to have been largely symptom free due to early intervention and medication.  He lives with Rheumatoid Arthritis but it does not define him!

Ash McElroy
Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
Youth Honoree

Ash a junior in high school, was first diagnosed with JIA and Fibromyalgia in 4th and 5th grade. Currently, she is happily able to say she has been in remission from JIA for three years now. Through her diagnose, she continues to advocate for children diagnosed with JIA, and is the author of the upcoming children's book "Lily and the Chronic Illness", written for young children to be able to see themselves represented in the media. After high school, Ash plans to become a journalist, and continue using her platform to change people's perception of chronic illness (kids get arthritis, too!). Ash is excited to be the 2019 Youth Honoree for the San Diego Jingle Bell Run.
