Mark Sczepanski, M.D.
Ophthalmologist
Medical Honoree  

Ophthalmologist, Mark Sczepanski, M.D. has performed thousands of cataract and LASIK procedures over the last two decades. He is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Sczepanski is a native of Stephen, MN and a UND School of Medicine and NDSU College of Pharmacy graduate. He was awarded best teacher while at the University of Minnesota Department of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha, the nation’s only medical honor society. Dr. Sczepanski is a clinical instructor with the UND School of Medicine


Lauren Schoenfelder
Juvenile Spondyloarthropathy Rheumatoid Arthritis
Adult Honoree  

Lauren Schoenfelder is a 19-year-old college student attending the University of North Dakota. She has been dealing with constant pain for about 8 years and has been diagnosed with juvenile spondyloarthropathy rheumatoid arthritis for 4 years. Lauren has gone through years of physical therapy, several different rounds of medicine, and dozens of doctor appointments. Being diagnosed as a Freshman in High School had its disadvantages. Having to stop playing sports that she had been playing since she could walk, to having to sit out of practice because of pain. Her Sophomore-Senior year she had started to thin out the sports she was active in. At the end of her Senior year she was no longer a three-sport athlete but was only active in Volleyball due to restricting physical activity.

 


Aspen Caillier
Oligoarticular Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
Youth Honoree  

Aspen Caillier is a 5-year-old Kindergartner at Thompson. Aspen was diagnosed with oligoarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis just before her 4th birthday. Aspen has been on Naproxen and had Steroid injection in both knees. Aspen sees an ophthalmologist every three months to check for Uveitis. Aspen enjoys learning, riding bike, camping and fishing with her family. Aspen continues to deal with pain on an off but is still very active.
