For Jaime Bremerkamp, a litigation attorney with the St. Louis law firm of Sandberg Phoenix & von Gontard P.C., and her husband, Justin, starting their family was wonderful and much anticipated. But a few weeks after the birth of their first child, Jaime was bothered by several odd symptoms. Her eyebrows fell out and she frequently experienced “pins and needles” sensations in her hands, feet and face. The issues weren’t major or debilitating and the couple thought little of them, especially after the symptoms vanished when Jaime became pregnant with their second son a few months later. Unfortunately, just weeks after their second child was born, the odd symptoms returned. Her little finger went numb and stayed numb. Soon, both hands were numb and weak, and she was no longer capable of holding either baby. Jaime’s doctors ran a battery of tests but couldn’t come up with a diagnosis. Before long, Jaime could barely walk or hold a pen, was extremely weak and fatigued, yet still had no answers. Finally, additional testing revealed rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and Jaime began her path to treatment and her fight against RA.

Today, Jaime’s condition is very well managed, in large part due to the breakthroughs in RA treatment supported by the Arthritis Foundation. Her high energy level has returned, and she is loving every moment with her husband and two young boys and very much enjoys her work as a litigation attorney. Shortly after her diagnosis, “Jaime’s Rheummates” banded together in support of the Arthritis Foundation and Jaime’s fight against arthritis.

Jaime is thrilled to serve as the Corporate Chair for the 2018 Jingle Bell Run – an event she knows first-hand makes a world of difference for those facing the challenges of living with arthritis. Please consider joining Jaime's Rheummates and jingling with us on November 18 or supporting our fight against arthritis with a donation.  Together we can find a cure!
