Cong-Qiu Chu, MD, PhD
Dr. Cong-Qiu Chu is Associate Professor of Medicine and Director, Oregon Health & Science University Early Arthritis Clinic. He is also a Staff Rheumatologist at VA Portland Health Care System.
Dr. Chu’s clinical areas of focus include arthritis, spondylitis, lupus and autoinflammatory diseases. He has a longstanding research interest in the mechanisms of rheumatoid arthritis, cytokines and developing novel therapies for rheumatoid arthritis. His early research on tumor necrosis factor (TNF) helped with the development of highly effective treatments for rheumatoid arthritis. At OHSU he sees patients with inflammatory arthritis at the early stages and works on strategies to induce and maintain remission in early RA in clinical studies.
He obtained his M.D. from Jilin University Bethune Medical College (1983); Ph.D. from the University of London (1992); his medical residency at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan (2004); and a fellowship in Rheumatology at University of Washington in Seattle (2006).
Dr. Chu likes to spend his spare time with his wife and twin boys and they enjoy sports, including skiing.
