Kevin J. Kempf, MD Rheumatology Associates of South Texas Medical Honoree Dr. Kempf was born and raised in San Antonio, TX and attended Churchill High School. He graduated from Duke University with a B.S. in Psychology in 1986. He then attended Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX and graduated in the top 15% in 1991. He was awarded a naval scholarship and entered the U.S. Navy in 1991. He completed his internal medicine internship at Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD). After internship, he served as a General Medical Officer and a Naval Flight Surgeon. After his operational tours, he finished his residency at NMCSD. While there, he received the Aequanimitas Award and was selected Chief of Residents. He completed his rheumatology fellowship at Scripps Clinic and Research Institute in La Jolla, CA in 2000. While there, he was selected as the Chief Fellow and received the Tom Waltz Teaching Award. After this, he served as the Division Head of Rheumatology at NMCSD. During this time, he became certified as a medical acupuncturist and remains very interested in complementary, alternative and integrative medicine. After 11 years of military service, Dr. Kempf returned to San Antonio with his wife and 2 children. He has been in private practice since 2002. He is a fellow member of the American College of Rheumatology and the American College of Physicians. He is a member of the Bexar County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association and the International Society of Clinical Densitometry. He is also Voluntary Faculty at Christus Santa Rosa Residency Program. He is a regular speaker and educator for community groups and physicians on rheumatology topics. Dr. Kempf has been named by his peers to the Super Doctors® list, published in a special advertising section in Texas Monthly, for 10 consecutive years. |
