Joyce Brown, RN has been working with Rheumatology patients for over 40 years. She started her education at the University of Iowa but was unable to complete her nursing degree initially because of health issues. In 1980, Joyce began her time working with Dr. Theodore Rooney at COMS, now the Des Moines University as Medical Assistant. Dr Rooney and Joyce began caring for large numbers of rheumatology patients and dream was born to start a clinic. Joyce returned to nursing school and officially joined Dr Rooney July 11, 1987 as an RN. 

 

Joyce has worked as a Clinical Nurse for 38 years and a Research Coordinator for 30 years. Joyce shares that her dream of providing Rheumatology care that was based on scientific knowledge and individualized, compassionate care has been fulfilled. After her retirement in June of 2024, Joyce reflects on her love of her patients and her Iowa Arthritis and Osteoporosis Center family. 

Our Walk to Cure Arthritis team is part of a large arthritis community — united together to help the nearly 60 million Americans, including hundreds of thousands of children, with arthritis live their best lives. This event raises money to advance arthritis treatments and find a cure, develop resources, and take action to improve people’s lives.
