Bowen
Systemic Juvenile
Idiopathic Arthritis
Youth Honoree

Bowen is 6 years old, and doesn't let anything slow him down, even systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). Bowen's journey started in 2023 when he became highly feverish and experienced shortness of breath. It progressed with daily complaints of ankle, knee, and neck pain. It became severe enough that he could no longer do the things he loves.

Bowen was diagnosed with Systemic JIA in January of 2024. Bowen is now in treatment but is still struggling to find the right medication that can control his flares. Bowen has good weeks, then returns to the hospital when the flares return. He loves to swim and play with his sisters and puppy. Through it all, Bowen remains positive. His smile brightens any room!
