Walk to Cure Arthritis - Rock The Walk 2022
I walk because I have arthritis! I was diagnosed when I was 35 with osteoarthritis in knees and and hands and later in the spine. Age 45 with spondylolithesis and age 50 with osteonecrosis in my right knee. It was a extremely hard time for me, - I loved my job, I loved hiking, skating and had so many things going on in my life...I didn't have time to be hurting! But the universe had other plans for me. I still struggle many days with limitations, but I am a fighter and will not let this control my life. I still experience setbacks and “episodes where I am in pain for days”, but with the love, support, and encouragement from family and friends I keep pushing forward. And I have found an amazing second family with in my arthritis foundation community.
I walk because 300,000 children and young adults are battling arthritis and other rheumatic diseases.Someplace even in your neighborhood there is a child with JA wishing they didn't have to take daily medications or injections and could just be pain free.
I walk because Juvenile Arthritis (JA) is one of the most common chronic childhood diseases, yet it often goes under the radar undetected or misdiagnosed. If left untreated, irreversible joint damage may occur. There are more children with JA than juvenile diabetes, a much better known disease.
I walk because in the Mahoning Valley which consists of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana County
Over one-third (40%) of adults were told by a health care professional that they had some form of arthritis, increasing to 63 percent for those over age 65
Adults were also diagnosed with the following: Fibromyalgia (7%), Rheumatoid arthritis (7%), Gout (5%), and Lupus (3%)
I walk because over 54 million U.S. adults (about 23%) report having doctor-diagnosed arthritis. By 2040, over 80 million people will have arthritis. Arthritis is more common among women (24%) than men (18%), and it affects
all racial and ethnic groups. Arthritis commonly occurs with other chronic diseases, like diabetes, heart disease, cancer and obesity, and can make it harder for people to manage these conditions
(Source: CDC, Arthritis at a Glance, 2017).
I walk because in Ohio there are over 2.5 million people in Ohio who suffer from arthritis pain
I walk because here in the Mahoning Valley we are blessed with a few amazing adult and child Rheumatologists and Orthopedic Specialists in this area who have dedicated their career to helping children and adults diagnosis and treatment of diseases that affect the muscles, bones, joints, ligaments, and tendons.
I walk for you
