2024 Jingle Bell Run Honorees

Melissa Manna Rutherford
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Adult Honoree

Melissa was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) at age 38, just 3 months after welcoming her daughter. Despite her arthritis affecting her joints, she has remained active through practicing yoga, gardening, cooking and baking as her joints allow. She enjoys hiking and spending time outdoors with her family and just traveled to Maine for her first hiking trip since her diagnosis.

Melissa is excited to be this year’s Adult Honoree and to bring people together to support the Arthritis Foundation and bring awareness to those who suffer from arthritis. She will be walking the 5k route with her friends and family to remind herself that she is capable of difficult things even with RA.

Michael Murphy
Systemic Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
Youth Honoree

Michael was diagnosed with systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis, a rare form of juvenile arthritis, at just 2 years old. It took many doctors’ appointments, tests, and the persistence of his parents to eventually find a diagnosis. Michael now receives bi-monthly shots to assist in keeping his arthritis at a minimum.

Michael is now a strong 6-year-old who loves to golf, play flag football, and fish. He is an avid Philadelphia sports fan – Jason Kelce, AJ brown and Bryce harper are his heroes!

Michael and his family  love to share as much as they can about life with arthritis to raise awareness. Even his dog, Marlin, has arthritis and Michael loves to know that he understands his pain.

Joseph "Joe" Krott
Champion Honoree

Joe has been participating in Jingle Bell Run since the early 2000’s when it was held in Manayunk.  He has served as a co-chair for over 5-years and has also been a top-fundraising Team Captain/Participant.  Joe’s leadership in the local market has included serving on the Board as well as in the roles of Treasurer, Vice Chair and Chair.  After more than 20 years of service, he has stepped away from serving on the board and 2024 will be his last year serving as co-chair for the Jingle Bell Run.  Please join us as we thank and honor Joe for his dedication to our “fight to conquer arthritis.”
