2023 Walk to Cure Arthritis Honorees

 

Cory Calendine, M.D.
Bone & Joint Institute of TN
Orthopedic Honoree


Dr. Calendine is a fellowship-trained, board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in the surgical treatment of arthritis - including minimally-invasive anterior hip replacement, partial and total knee replacement, and robotic-assisted joint surgery. In addition to a busy clinical practice as a founding partner of the Bone and Joint Institute of Tennessee, Dr. Calendine is dedicated to orthopedic education and enjoys lecturing nationally and internationally on the latest joint replacement techniques and advancements.

 

Alisa Gotte, M.D.
Vanderbilt
Rheumatology Honoree


Dr. Gotte received her medical education and served as a faculty member at the University of Texas Southwestern. In 2015, she joined the faculty at Vanderbilt, where she sees patients at the Nashville, Franklin and Cookeville locations. She is also the Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship Program Director, a program generously supported by the Arthritis Foundation. She has been active with the Arthritis Foundation, serving as a grant reviewer, and speaking at Arthritis Foundation events, including the National Juvenile Arthritis Convention, the Juvenile Arthritis Family Weekend at Great Wolf Lodge, Juvenile Arthritis Education Event at the Chattanooga Aquarium, and Juvenile Arthritis Family Day Out at Camp Widjiwagen.

Rachel Drucker
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Adult Honoree


Rachel Drucker is a 27 year old who has rheumatoid arthritis. She was diagnosed just after graduating from college. Her symptoms came on suddenly and severely, and for a time, she had to use a wheelchair to get around. To cope with the challenges of arthritis, she relies on an incredible support system of loving family and friends, laughter, and lots and lots of takeout.

Currently, Rachel is a school-based social worker in the Somerville, Massachusetts public school system. Her invisible disability reminds her that each and every one of her students has a unique story you can’t see.

 

Bryson Bouchard
Juvenile Arthritis
Youth Honoree


Bryson Bouchard got diagnosed with juvenile arthritis (JA) when he was 5 years old. He gets shots everyday to assist with his JA.

He plays basketball and has dreams of being in the NBA one day. He does not let juvenile arthritis define him. He appreciates everything his doctors at Vanderbilt Rheumatology have done.

Together we can help make a difference in the lives of those whose suffer with Arthritis. Bryson says, “Thank you for making me the Honoree of the Walk to Cure Arthritis. I am very happy.”

 

Marcy Buckley
Legacy Honoree


Marcy Buckley was a nurse and artist who loved being a wife and mother. Her arthritis diagnosis at age 33 changed how she moved  but did not stop her from moving forward.

Medical treatment along with a strong mind and gentle heart helped her enjoy life despite the pain she felt. She inspired others by doing everything her body allowed and keeping a sense of humor.

Marcy believed in the work of the Arthritis Foundation and would be honored by this recognition. She is remembered with love by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
