Evelyn Callan Oligoarticular Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis Youth Honoree When Evelyn was 18 months old she developed a limp and swelling in her right knee. After multiple doctors’ appointments and diagnoses, Evelyn stopped walking--leading to an emergency room visit, orthopedic consultation, and eventually a rheumatology consultation where she was diagnosed with oligoarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). Evelyn takes daily medications, occasional joint injections, and weekly subcutaneous injections to help control her arthritis. She is followed closely by her wonderful rheumatologist, Dr. Co at the American Family Children’s Hospital and is a happy, playful three-year-old. Evelyn loves playing with her siblings, riding her bike, dancing, and playing with her friends.
