2023 Walk to Cure Arthritis Honorees

Abby Ferraro
Juvenile Arthritis
National Honoree

At only 19 months of age, Abby had her first arthritis flare, which began with limping and a swollen knee. After many doctors’ visits and testing, she was finally referred to a pediatric rheumatologist and diagnosed with juvenile arthritis (JA). Abby and her family have been involved in Walk to Cure Arthritis since she was 2 years old — creating the Abby’s Army Walk to Cure Arthritis team and volunteering with the Foundation to fight JA.

To date, the Abby’s Army team has raised over $125,000 for Walk to Cure Arthritis, making them one of the top fundraising teams in the Eastern Pennsylvania market each year and often in the top 10 nationally. Learn More

Amilla Blough
Psoriatic Arthritis
Adult Honoree

Amilla Blough is 28 years old living with psoriatic arthritis. At around the age one Ameilla stopped walking. Doctors had various tests done to find out was was wrong and she was eventually referred to a pediatric rheumatologist, Dr. Ostrov. Dr. Ostrov placed her hands on Amilla's knees and immediately knew what it was, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. She has had both knees replaced.

Amilla attended Camp JRA for the first time in 2004 and that experience changed her life. She connected with others who understood what she was going through and made lifelong friends. Ameilla is incredibly honored to be the Walk to Cure Arthritis Philadelphia Region Adult Honoree for 2023.

Ben McDevitt
Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
Youth Honoree

Ben was diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) at 29 months old. His parents knew something was wrong when Ben began limping and complaining about pain in his hip. After a few months of X-rays, an MRI, a biopsy, and blood work he was finally diagnosed with JIA and immediately began treatment. Ben has managed to keep a smile on his face even through weekly injections. Ben loves playing soccer, lacrosse, tag and can't wait to start preschool in the Fall. The McDevitt’s are especially grateful for their family and friends who have been so supportive and helpful along the way. As stated by his mom Layne, “We couldn’t do any of this without them!”

Jack
Dog Honoree

Jack is a spunky 5-year-old rescue mutt that has been dealing with back pain since he was 2. Jack's MRI confirmed a diagnosis of intervertebral disc disease including a ruptured disc in his low back. The MRI also showed signs of aging and degeneration in all discs that were visible during testing.

To avoid surgery, Jack has been on strict bed rest and takes nerve and anti-inflammatory medications to manage his pain. It’s been a difficult time since he typically enjoys strutting around the neighborhood on long walks, running around with his big pup brother, Jasper, chasing bumblebees, and following his mom around as her little shadow. His family believes that with the right combination of medication, rest, and love, he’ll have a happy life!
