2022 Jingle Bell Run Honorees

Allie Pitones
Rheumatoid Juvenile Arthritis
Young Adult Honoree

At the age of 13, Allie was diagnosed with rheumatoid juvenile arthritis. Even though this diagnosis turned her world upside down, Allie never felt alone. At the hospital where she received care, she was given a Juvenile Arthritis Power Pack by the Arthritis Foundation. Allie still uses the yellow, microwavable bear from the Power Pack to soothe achy joints.

Allie has learned to accept and live with chronic illness. She used to hide the fact that she has arthritis, now she flaunts it as a personality trait. She is not afraid of this disease and fights valiantly to find a cure! Through the flares and remission, Allie considers herself a warrior and a Champion of Yes!

Bennett Wald
Polyarticular Juvenile Arthritis
Youth Honoree

Shortly after learning to walk, Bennett's parents noticed his limp. He also had trouble getting up and down the stairs and was especially stiff after waking from naps. After visiting multiple doctors, a rheumatologist at Children's Hospital in Aurora, Colorado diagnosed him with polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis.

Treatments started with ultrasound guided steroid injections, then weekly injections with oral medications, and he is currently on bi-weekly injections and physical therapy. Over the course of a year and a relocation to Texas, Bennett’s improvement has been remarkable. He is back to playing soccer with his friends. No one would ever suspect that this little warrior has been battling juvenile arthritis for more than half of his life. He has been fortunate to continue fantastic care with the team at Cook Children’s in Fort Worth.
