Greg McCollister
Gout
Adult Honoree

Greg remembers his first incident in 1986, with severe pain in his right foot after driving his car for 4 hours. Greg’s general practitioner diagnosed him with gout and prescribed xanthine oxidase inhibitors. The pain went away after a week but he had more flares over the next few years. Greg self-treated with over-the-counter medication until the flares increased, he decided to see a rheumatologist. Greg’s rheumatologist explained the cause of gout which is a change in uric acid in the blood. He was prescribed 2 different medications for his flares. Greg still takes a maintenance dose of xanthine oxidase inhibitors to reduce his flares and their severity.

Ocean Star Pate
Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
Youth Honoree

Ocean Star Pate is proud to represent the Arthritis Foundation as the Youth Honoree. Ocean was diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) at the age of 7. While it has been a tough road, Ocean has learned by the age of 12, that she is not willing to give up on the things she loves to do! This year she ran a fantastic season of cross country for the first time since kindergarten, represented her school in an amazing swim season, and is playing soccer for the first time! She hopes that all children with arthritis can be inspired to keep saying YES!
