Paisley Yarbrough
Juvenile Arthritis
Child Honoree

Paisley was diagnosed with Juvenile Arthritis at 17 months. It affects multiple joints throughout her body and on bad days she uses a wheelchair. Paisley started a biologic in 2015 and switched to infusions in 2018. She’s doing better, but still has mobility issues, joint swelling and pain. Paisley doesn’t let arthritis stop her and she’s involved in theatre, pageantry and is currently Miss Spirit of the South and Miss Christmas Spirit. She’s proud to share about JA, and while days may try to bring her down, she maintains a positive outlook and radiant smile. Paisley is thankful and excited to be the 2020 Youth Honoree!

Ruben Ocasio
Systemic and Psoriatic Juvenile Arthritis
Legacy Honoree

Ruben Ocasio was quiet, shy and the kindest individual anyone had ever met. He made a huge impression on people who met him. He was a Boy Scout (earning an Eagle Scout Medal), a bookworm, and an honor roll student all through school. Ruben was also working on his PhD at UCF. He was an active athlete, training for the Olympics on a professional swim team. After several incorrect diagnosis, Rubén was finally diagnosed with Systemic and Psoriatic Juvenile Arthritis, at the age of 12. Something the doctors had always previously called “growing pains”.

Rubén passed away on November 30, 2015 at the early age of 30 and left a huge hole in many hearts. To honor him, Ruben was named the Legacy Honoree for the 2020 Walk to Cure Arthritis in Orlando. “This is an honor he deserves, not only here but also in heaven.” Although he struggled with his disease, it never stopped him from fulfilling his dreams. Team Ruben walks in his honor and he’s a hero to us all.
