MaKayla was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) at the age of 18, during her first semester of college. Her arthritis has affected almost all of her major joints, besides her spine. She struggled to find medication to improve her symptoms and just recently found one that worked for her.

MaKayla loves being involved with the Arthritis Foundation. She has been a camp counselor for the past two summers at camp KODA (Kids Out to Defeat Arthritis) and has helped with many other events throughout the years. She says that being involved with the Arthritis Foundation has given her an even stronger support system!

Nolan Swenson
Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
Child Honoree

Nolan is eight years old. In 2016, Nolan lost all mobility in his left wrist. Soon after he was diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis. It took a lot of piggyback rides and determination, but he’s currently living a nearly pain-free life aside from his weekly injections. Nolan loves music and can often be found strumming his guitar or drumming on anything he can find.

His goal is to continue to put a face to this disease and raise funds to help other children feel the love and support that he has from his Arthritis Foundation family for years to come.
