Donovan Gonzales
Juvenile Arthritis
Youth Honoree

Diagnosed with juvenile arthritis at 6 years old, almost every joint in Donovan’s body was affected. He couldn’t make a fist, bend his wrist back, or move his neck very well. He could barely walk down the stairs in the morning. He was referred to Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Chicago, and immediately started medications. He started seeing improvement quickly but also started to feel unwanted side effects. Donovan is an amazing, resilient boy and almost 2 ½ years after his diagnoses, he continues to improve and has minimal evidence of disease. Donovan joined the Walk last year and he is excited to walk again this year. Donovan’s ultimate dream is to one day become a scientist and find a cure for arthritis.
