Brenda Hendrickson
Adult Honoree

Brenda always has a positive attitude, smiling face and strong faith. You’d never know she has arthritis. About a year ago, Brenda started having lower back pain. No matter what she did or what medication she took, it wouldn’t go away. She went to the doctor, where arthritis was confirmed. Now, everyday tasks are challenging: putting on socks, cleaning out her cat’s litter box and even climbing a few steps. Through the daily battles and pain, Brenda remains positive. She would give anything to be able to hold her grandchildren again and joins the walk to help find a cure.

Zeke Phillips
Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
Youth Honoree

Ezekiel’s story begins in November 2018 with a swollen knee. After a few weeks, the swelling wouldn’t decrease and he wasn’t walking. After doctor visits, they were sent to an orthopedic specialist at Children’s Hospital, where they noticed his fingers were also swollen. They were sent to a rheumatologist at Children’s Hospital, where Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) was confirmed. They now travel to St. Louis every 3 months for a check-up and also have to see an ophthalmologist. However, as an active 6-year-old, Zeke doesn’t let it slow him down. He is taking ninja training classes and will play baseball this summer.
