Shannon Masterson
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Adult Honoree

Shannon was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and despite having enjoyed a short period of remission, her disease has once again flared up and is back with a vengeance.

Just this past year at 29 years old, she discovered that her right knee and elbow are bone on bone and had to undergo knee replacement. She leans on her faith and the people around her like never before.

“It is a constant battle to not allow the pain and fear of this disease to take over you. We are fighters, we are warriors, and we will continue on in our daily battle.”

Ximena
Oligoarthritis Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
Youth Honoree

Invincible. Unstoppable. Unshakeable. Unbreakable. Meet Ximena. She is an enthusiastic 5 year old with oligoarthritis juvenile idiopathic arthritis. Ximena's parents noticed swelling in her knee weeks before her 3rd birthday. After several weeks of doctors appointments, and with the help of an amazing team of primary, orthopedic and rheumatologists they were able to diagnose and come up with a treatment plan. She has been on Methotrexate for a year and it has kept flares and her uveitis at bay.

Ximena is now able to enjoy swimming, and soccer and working out with her mom. She is looking forward to playing softball and basketball as she gets older.

Ximena's advice for kids who have arthritis is, " it makes you brave and strong. And you still can do things like other kids. Like play soccer. Having arthritis makes you a champion."
