Tom Kelley Sr.
Adult Honoree

Tom was diagnosed 30+ years ago with arthritis which caused spinal stenosis in his back. He was told tolimit his heavy lifting. Since his company, Tom Kelley’s Bowling Pro Shop, sells bowling balls that come in boxes of four, he would unload and handle large shipments which caused his back to take a heavy beating. The result was having back surgery so he could walk again and relieve the pain.

Today, Tom says his overall health is fine, except for his back. HE was an avid bowler but that has become to difficult. Before being diagnosed with arthritis, he bowled on the Senior Tour from 1990 to 1996. He also enjoys hunting which has been a little more difficult due to walking. He has always enjoyed working, but the pain has made that more difficult as well. Along with bowling and hunting, he enjoys woodworking. He is also a lifetime member of the American Legion and USBC.

Tom’s biggest dream is to enjoy his retirement. He says that if he can help anyone with arthritis, then this is time well spent. He wants to raise funds and awareness to help find a cure for the countless number of people who suffer with the many forms of arthritis.

Macy Androy
Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
Youth Honoree

Macy Andoy, age 6, was diagnosed with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) at the age of 3. About a month after being diagnosed, Macy started on Methotrexate and then a year later Embrel. She still receives both shots weekly and is currently doing well. One of the challenges that Macy has found difficult is limiting certain foods. This is due to stomach problems from the meds she is currently taking.

Macy does not allow arthritis to limit her. She enjoys running and last year won second place at Track & Field Day. She also played soccer and softball and this year started dance. In her free time, she enjoys playing with dolls. Her sister Carly and her like to play outside with their dog, Cassie, a Doberman. Her favorite subject in school is Math. Once she finishes school, she would like to be a teacher and artist.

Macy’s hopes for the future are to find a cure for arthritis. She feels that the JA Power Pack which includes the bear has helped a lot. She loves to warm the bear up and sleep with it. Macy says she is honored to be chosen as the 2019  Walk to Cure Arthritis Nebraska honoree, giving her the opportunity to tell her story to others.
