Julia
Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
Youth Honoree

Julia is 14 years old and was diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) at the age of 10. Physically, it was very difficult for her to walk and use her hands the first year. She realized that JIA also affects school, sports and being with her friends. She got involved with the Arthritis Foundation shortly after her diagnosis so she could tell her story and advocate for children with JIA. As a Junior Ambassador, she speaks at events and volunteers at walks. She encourages other teens to get involved with the Foundation as a way to educate the public about JIA.

Alexa
Polyarticular Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
Youth Honoree

Alexa was diagnosed with Polyarticular Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis on May 8, 2017 when she was just 8 years old. It is a constant battle with both good and bad days. The bad days however can limit her ability to be a typical teenager. Alexa is hopeful that one day she will be in remission and no longer need monthly infusions. She is passionate about advocating for herself and others and raising awareness and funds for the Arthritis Foundation and hopes to one day have a cure!!
