Abigail Jacobs
Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
Young Adult Honoree

Abigail was diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) at 11. She had pain in her wrist and an MRI showed signs of arthritis. When first diagnosed, Abigail and her family were shocked, Abigail who loved sports could no longer participate but instead of being down she told her parents, "We have to fight this disease. I am not going to let it stop me." At the age of 11 in 2012, Abigail decided to join the Arthritis Foundation. She realized that other kids also dealt with this problem and she was not alone. Abigail is now 20 and is studying at the University Of Central Florida to become a police officer.

Dylan Toler
Juvenile Arthritis
Child Honoree

Dylan is 7 and is one of the happiest, funniest, most positive kids you could ever meet. He loves to play board games, read books, play Fortnite and Roblox, and his favorite thing to do is spend time with his family. Dylan spent over a year limping and suffering from pain and inflammation before being diagnosed with juvenile arthritis. His symptoms were mistaken for growing pains and orthopedic issues. Dylan and his family are hoping that his medication along with physical and occupational therapy will provide him relief, and he will be able to start karate classes and other activities he enjoys. They are thrilled to be a part of the fight against arthritis and helping to find a cure! #TeamDylan

Ruben Ocasio III
Systemic and Psoriatic Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis
Legacy Honoree

Ruben Ocasio was quiet, shy and the kindest individual anyone had ever met. He made a huge impression on people who met him. He was a Boy Scout (earning an Eagle Scout Medal), a bookworm, and an honor roll student all through school. Ruben was also working on his PhD at UCF. He was an active athlete, training for the Olympics on a professional swim team. After several incorrect diagnoses, Rubén was finally diagnosed with systemic and psoriatic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, at the age of 12. Something the doctors had always previously called “growing pains”. Rubén passed away on November 30, 2015 at the early age of 30 and left a huge hole in many hearts. To honor his memory, Ruben was named the Legacy Honoree for the 2022 Walk to Cure Arthritis in Orlando. “This is an honor he deserves, not only here but also in heaven.” Although he struggled with his disease, it never stopped him from fulfilling his dreams. Team Ruben walks in his honor and he’s a hero to us all.
