Angela Harrison Juvenile Arthritis National Adult Honoree Angie was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis 50 years ago at age 3 ½ after she began complaining of pain when doing ordinary activities like grasping an item or walking. Soon multiple joints, and eventually all her joints, were affected. Back then, baby aspirin was the treatment, thus significant joint deformity occurred. Despite the limited range of motion and pain, she strove to do as many of the activities that others did. Through the years she attended school, college, moved out on her own, and became employed. She learned how to make accommodations in how and when she did something, depending on whether it was a good or bad day. Angie feels privileged to be the 2022 National Walk to Cure Arthritis Adult Honoree and hopes her example inspires others with arthritis on their unique journeys.
