Kathleen Hoffmann
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Adult Honoree

Kathleen was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in 2008. In 2011, she fought back by registering for the Disney Princess Half Marathon. Her doctor told her it wasn’t possible. After nearly a year of training, she completed the event.

Since that time, she has become an outspoken advocate for the rights of arthritis patients. She testified before a New Jersey Senate Subcommittee regarding the rights of patients to not be forced to accept Biosimilar substitutions without doctor’s approval. She participated on the Patient Advisory Board of a major pharmaceutical company. She is the Arthritis Foundation Patient Advocate for New Jersey Congressional District 6.

Samantha Aramboles
Spondylarthritis
Teen Honoree

Samantha, age 17, was an average kid. She went to school, hung out with friends, and played sports. In March 2020, she began to have intense pain that began to affect her daily life.

Samantha took an unhealthy amount of ibuprofen to deal with her chronic pain and perform regular activities, like softball. She was hospitalized for a week when the pain left her nearly immobile.

After her hospitalization, her rheumatologist diagnosed her with spondylarthritis. Samantha is now on the right medication and feels back to normal. She is grateful to her doctor for giving her life back.
