Dr. Jonathan Kaplan is a current partner at OSI & the foot and ankle fellowship director at HOI. He has a special interest in the arthritic conditions affecting the foot and ankle. Outside of his practice he tries to remain very active academically. His research interests include ankle arthritis / total ankle replacement, midfoot arthritis, malalignment / deformities in the foot and ankle, great toe arthritis, and athletic injuries in the foot and ankle. He has numerous publications in peer review journals, book chapters, and even serves as an Assistant Editor for the journal Foot & Ankle Orthopaedics.

Steve Murow is the Founder and Chairman of Murow Development Consultants in Irvine. Steve participates in many fundraising events including several past Walk for Arthritis events and ran the Chicago Marathon last October to raise funds benefiting the Ronald McDonald House Charities. He has completed 8 marathons and enjoys hanging out with his 2-year old grandson on Thursdays. Steve lives in Costa Mesa with his wife Jeanne who has been afflicted with Ankylosing Spondylitis for 30 years. Steve is elated to support the Walk for Arthritis in honoring Jeanne.

Sandy Cooper was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis at age 17. That was 43 years ago. Sandy’s road has not been easy. Pain, fatigue and the myriad of other symptoms have never been far from her mind. She takes medications and has endured multiple hand and foot surgeries over the years.
Sandy attributes her positive outcomes to staying current with scientific developments and seeking out the best medical providers and treatments for her arthritis.
Sandy’s friends say she is inspiration to all who know her. She always says, and clearly believes, that “each day is a gift.”

December 2004 she was rushed to CHOC. This is where she met Dr. Lee, after six months of being severely ill, misdiagnosed, poke & examined, nearly dying, Dr. Lee studied her charts, tests, examined her in her hospital bed and said, “You have RA.”
Dr. Lee is a genius! From the beginning he & Kat had a special bond. Dr. Lee made it clear that it would be hard for her to do things she was used to doing. Appreciating his honesty, Kat had other plans. She danced ballet, tap and jazz through college until she was six months pregnant.

Amelia spent Christmas morning of 2017 at Urgent Care to treat what we thought was a broken toe. She was 20 months old. It took us 2 months before we were referred to a pediatric rheumatologist, who identified this as Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis. Our lives filled with doctor appointments, exercises for physical and occupational therapy, medications, and worry.
Christmas 2019, Amelia is in medicated remission, joints have no active inflammatory response, but she is not "cured". We still administer weekly injections and will do so for the next two years. The symptoms can return and new joints may be affected.
