Macy has lived with a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) since age ten. He didn’t let it slow him down in high school, and participated in cross country and track, and became active in many outdoor activities, including snowboarding.

By the time he reached early adulthood, his medications included heavy “gap” drugs, including Prednisone between biologic response modifiers like Humira. Finally settling on infusions, however the impact of high-dose steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are lasting and severe. Some days Macy has spent completely bedridden and immobile. However, after starting Remicade, his life has been on a steady path to solid recovery.

While in need of hip replacement, he’s still managed to ride mountain bikes, snowboard and carry on without complaints like a true warrior.

Jack Nelson
Polyarticular Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis

Meet Jack! Jack is an energetic, happy 8 year old who also happens to have polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis. Jack's mom, Maegan, started noticing that he was walking differently than other toddlers at 18 months old and with her medical background, knew something wasn’t right. Fortunately, with the assistance of his doctor, they were able to successfully diagnose Jack a year later. With the help of his doctor and medical team, Jack now enjoys Crossfit and Lacrosse!

When asked what advise he would give to another child who has arthritis, Jack says, “You are stronger than you think!”.  Jack’s family always says, “Jack has Arthritis, but Arthritis does not have him!”
